Olympiacos U19s Make History: Triumph in UEFA Youth League

In a historic moment for Greek football, Olympiacos' U19 team etched their names in the annals of European football history by clinching the UEFA Youth League title. The young Greek talents delivered a stunning performance in the final against AC Milan, securing a memorable 3-0 victory and becoming the first Greek club side to lift a European trophy.

The match against AC Milan witnessed a remarkable display of skill and determination from Olympiacos' youngsters, highlighted by a breathtaking six-minute blitz that saw them net three goals between the 60th and 66th minute. Christos Mouzakitis, Antonis Papakanellos, and Theofanis Bakoulas were the heroes of the day, propelling their team to glory and etching their names in Greek football folklore.

Manager Sotiris Sylaidopoulos, also serving as an assistant to first-team head coach Jose Luis Mendilibar, expressed his pride and joy following the historic triumph. "It's an amazing feeling," said Sylaidopoulos. "Only saying the words that we are European champions is something very special for us. We're very proud as a club. I think we deserve it 100 per cent."

The victory holds special significance for Olympiacos, coming exactly 20 years after Greece's historic triumph at Euro 2004 under Otto Rehhagel. It symbolizes a new chapter in Greek football, with Olympiacos' U19s showcasing the talent and potential that exists within the country's footballing landscape.

Beyond the triumph on the European stage, Olympiacos' success has attracted attention from top clubs across Europe. Scouts from Juventus and AC Milan were reportedly in attendance during Olympiacos' semi-final victory over Nantes, keeping a close eye on promising talents such as Charalampos Kostoulas and Antzelo Sina.

Kostoulas, a 16-year-old striker, has been a revelation in this season's Youth League, scoring five goals and providing two assists in eight games. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Antzelo Sina has been a stalwart in defense, conceding only five goals in nine Youth League outings and maintaining an impressive record domestically.

One player who stole the spotlight in the final was Theofanis Bakoulas, whose spectacular overhead kick sealed the victory against AC Milan. Despite primarily operating as a defensive midfielder, Bakoulas showcased his attacking prowess with a moment of brilliance, further highlighting the depth of talent within Olympiacos' ranks.
